A lot of people are dealing with their demons, addictions, and depression. It’s hard to feel alive some days, because life has made you almost stone-like. You will need to keep in mind that there are ways to give up all the self-destructive behavior, but you need to do it for yourself and not for anyone else. There are a lot of people, who go to rehab or a clinic for help, but they don’t really want to; it’s all the pressure and expectations of others telling them to. It’s awful when you are alone and then living your life for someone else. You can’t allow someone else to control your life and you can’t listen to all the expectations, because it will only drive you crazy.
Keep in mind that your depression is completely normal. It’s hard to think that depression is apart of life, but it has become for many. You’ll want to keep in mind that even when you are depressed you can have really high, highs and really low, lows. There are two states of depression. You will feel the blue, lonely, depressed state and then you will feel the manic state. When you are manic your mind will begin to race. Perhaps you feel the need to go exercise or go dancing because you are just too energized to deal with anything. In both stages, you can feel as if you are watching your life instead of living your life. There is a lot of things that will affect your mental state (rather it be a natural dysfunction or years of alcohol and drug use).
The first thing that you can do is reach out to someone. Talk to someone who you trust and tell them exactly what you are going through. Tell them how you feel because it’s so hard for others to see the negative power that affects loved ones. Often you just don’t want to realize or admit that there may be a problem. You just hope that it’s a phase and they snap out of it. It’s important that you share your feelings.
The second thing is to reach out for medical attention. If you are so depressed that you feel that you would rather die than continue to live, then you need to go to the hospital and check yourself into a mental health facility. They will be able to support you with group therapy and also start you on some drug therapy. If you are using drugs or drinking excessively, then you will need to talk to a loved one about checking into a detox or drug rehab. The moment that you get clean, you’ll be able to take a little bit of your life back. You’ll also begin to feel like you have some control over yourself and over the direction of your life.
You’ll also want to take a break from the fast lane. If you think that it is best that you take some time to clean up and get sober, then you will need to give up your career for a little bit. You’ll also want to consider taking on more roles that will support your independence from substances. You’ll find that through leadership programs and by raising awareness of the effects of drug using, you’ll be able to feel better about your own condition and work on your sobriety at the same time.
Keep in mind that every thing is in your hands right now. You have the choice to stay in your deep, dark place or you have the choice to walk away from your depression and issues. You do have it in yourself to overcome a relapse and with the help and support of close friends or family you’ll be able to do more than just make the best out it. You’ll be able to life again.
