5 Creative Ways to Handle Regret in Healthy Ways

Many people try to stop regret before it takes hold. In the scheme of things, that doesn’t always work. It doesn’t help if you are standing on the other side of regret while trying to move on. “Suck it up buttercup” is not exactly the motivational speech that helps everyone. Instead, consider giving new ways of handling regret a try.

1. Make Friends
Making new friends will give you a new focus in your life and open you up to how others better themselves. Regret implies a mistake made (once or repeatedly over time). Surround yourself with individuals who are trying to improve themselves. Spending time with people who are committed to self-development will naturally encourage you to do the same. You can help support them in their endeavors as well. Everyone needs a cheerleader.

2. Good Will to Others
Having goodwill towards others and verbally wishing them well will put vibes out into the world, and hopefully, bring the good back to you as well. Also, wishing others well will make you feel better about yourself and what you are putting out into the world.

3. Allow Mourning
You are allowed to mourn for what you did wrong, what you lost, or what you wish you would have done right. That is normal and healthy. Mourning is a time of processing, coping, and then you need to allow yourself to move on. You can cry, but at some point, you have to carry on with your life.

4. Make Up Your Own Mind
You don’t have to believe everything that you consume daily. If something isn’t setting right with you – about the mistake you think you made or how you think you should be moving on or trying to do better – then question it. Do your own research or forge your own path. You do not have to mindlessly go along with what the rest of society is telling you.

5. Eat What You Kill
This doesn’t mean take up hunting unless you want to. This means learning to rely on yourself more and on others less. Deal with your problems, take responsibility, take action. Eating what you kill will also allow you to build knowledge and strength in new areas of life.

Handling regret is hard in general, but it is even harder to handle it in healthy ways. Consider these creative ways to manage your regret and make yourself strong on the other side.
